Are competitions compulsory? What do they involve?

No - they are not compulsory. However attendance at competitions is always encouraged. Participation and self-development are key issues within our club, and competitions are a great way to build team spirit and a sense of belonging.

We generally take part in two Interclub challenges around August/September - these are great days to catch up with Physi friends, and to prepare for Zone competitions. They are friendly, fun days, and all participants receive an award.

Team competitions are held during October/November. Teams consist of 6 members who drill in unison - points are awarded for synchronicity, presentation and performance of the exercise syllabus. There is no better way to bond with classmates than to be part of a team, and selection in teams at Lithgow club is highly sought after.

Individual competitions (Champion Girl/Lady) are held for each age group, and members from clubs throughout the Sydney Zone compete for selection at the State Finals. All competitors at Champion Girl receive a medal for their participation. From the State Finals (held each November), 12 girls are selected from each age group to contest the prestigious State Grand Final - held on the last Sunday of November each year at Sydney Town Hall. The winner of each section is then the Champion Girl!

Lithgow club concludes each year with a Club Competition/Presentation night. Each member attends and participates, receiving a club medal and certificate for their efforts. Numerous other awards such as Most Improved for each age group, an overall perpetual Encouragement Award, Marching Champion and Club Champion are also presented on this special day.

What do I have to wear?

Class wear should enable girls to move freely - jeans and school uniforms are too restrictive. A simple leotard purchased from Target is ideal for class, as is any gym wear. Hair must be tied back for class.

Ballet shoes must be worn to all competitions, and it is always a good idea to purchase them around the beginning of second term. This gives the girls time to break them in (and it is getting too cold in Lithgow to have bare feet!) Ballet shoes for competitions must be silver, soft soled  - Paul Wright or Blochs are the preferred brands.

Competition leotards may be sourced from our supplier, Neon Dancewear or our Club has a selection of quality leotards for hire. Team leotards are hired to team members for competition day.
